Day 34. Termine machen

Zahlen und Ordnungszahlen.
In making appointments, we sometimes have to refer to dates, such as first of May, twelfth of June, the second week, etc. Ordinal numbers in German just like in English, are used to express a relative position: first, second, third and so on. In previous chapters, we already talked about how to count in German. Most of the time, we would simply add -te to the cardinal numbers to make them ordinal numbers. Therefore, mastering the German cardinal numbers will definitely help. Remember to take note of numbers and numbers with 1, 3 and 7 since there are changes in spelling.

Below is a list of German ordinal numbers.

In relation to cases, particularly in nominative and dative, there are simple rules to take note.
Nominativ: Zahl + -te
Example: Heute ist der zweite Mai. (Today is the second of May.)
Dativ: Zahl + -ten
Example: Ich habe am zweiten Mai Geburtstag. (Literally: I have birthday on the second of May, meaning My birthday is May 2.)

Day 33. Fortsetzung des Textes

Happy birthday classmate Phoebe!
Vielen Dank für das Singen in unserer Klasse.

✎My professor asked the class to think of Hollywood movies that we have seen before and we will watch it dubbed in German for next Wednesday's and Thursday's filmshowing. So far, Titanic (1993) and Finding Nemo (2003) seem to have secured spots. My nominations are in order of preference:
  1. Atonement (2007)
  2. Schindler's List (1993)
  3. The Pianist (2002)

Day 32. Im Verlagshaus

Today, we started discussing about requesting information, getting around and asking directions in German. The example used in the textbook was a publishing house. Here are some words and phrases that I learned today.

Sätze
„Guten Tag.Ich suche die Marketingabteilung. Wo ist die bitte?”
„Wo finde ich bitte die Chefredaktion?”
„Wo ist bitte die Kantine?”
„Wo sind hier die Toilletten?”

Was ist wo im Verlag? (Seite 100).
